Santo Domingo Agricultural Program

St. Joseph Community Health has been working with community members at Santa Domingo Pueblo on a project designed to strengthen community through intergenerational sharing among village elders and youth.  The program began as a gardening project that allowed community members to reconnect with traditional farming and to grow traditional crops.  Harvested crops were distributed to elders in the community and also sold at markets.  One outcome of the farming was getting younger members of the community involved.

Discussion is underway to further develop the intergenerational aspect of this work at Santo Domingo.  The potential to develop an agricultural cooperative and to enhance youth mentoring through a 4H club are potential directions for this program.
